Mission Statement
The Friends' mission is to improve health by increasing the use of the latest most effective medical and scientific information by health care professionals, scientists, and general public.

Organizational Background/Description
The Friends of the National Library of Medicine (FNLM), a nonprofit organization, was formed in 1986 to support and promote awareness of the National Library of Medicine (NLM). The National Library of Medicine, located in Bethesda, Maryland, is the world's largest repository of biomedical health sciences information. The Library is a preeminent leader in biomedical communications, and provides over 40 online databases, including MEDLINE, AIDSLINE, and TOXNET, as well as serving as a state-of-the-art research and development center applying advanced computing and communications to healthcare.
