Mission Statement
The Health Information Technology Institute strives to ensure quality health care by conducting research in support of accessible, affordable, appropriate, and efficacious health care in the public interest.  HITI fulfills its mission by evaluating systems, developing solutions, and implementing technology with the ultimate goal of improving the public's health.

Organizational Background/Description
The Health Information Technology Institute (HITI) was established in 1996 by Mitretek Systems, Inc., a charitable, tax exempt 501 (c) (3) organization that operates in the public interest.  Mitretek provides information technology and environmental management support to a wide client base, including the Department of Health and Human Services, Veterans Health Administration, Indian Health Services, Kaiser Permanente, local non-profit hospitals, and others.  A Blue Ribbon Panel consisting of highly recognized national and regional healthcare leaders from universities, health services organizations, and professional health agencies advises HITI.  The Institute believes that information technology is the backbone for effective decision-making and provides the crux to support healthcare delivery systems.
