Mission Statement:
The purpose of Literacy Volunteers of America/Buffalo & Erie County is to increase literacy skills in reading and conversational English of adult Erie County residents via the use of trained tutors through a free, one-to-one tutoring program, as well as free neighborhood Drop In Centers.


Organizational Background/Description
Since 1965, Literacy Volunteers has served functionally illiterate adults through our basic reading program. In the 1980's we began serving immigrants through ESOL classes. In the 2003-2004 program year, we served 695 clients from more than 80 different countries using over 400 trained tutors.
